The Normandy region of northern France took the lead in launching the "beach reading" program in 2005, when only three beach huts were filled with books.
Since July 7, 2018, Normandy has 12 resort facilities, including a beach cabin library at Plage d'Etretat, a famous white cliff coast, with a collection of 1000 books per beach cabin. The plan will last until August 26.
Isabel, a 52-year-old hairdresser in a sun loungers on Etta Beach, says reading before and after launching is a great way to relax. Isabel, who is reading a detective story, said, "I haven't gone abroad for a holiday anyway. I come here every afternoon (reading and swimming) to reward myself."
The Beach Library in Normandy has 400 sun loungers for beach readers, which are open every day from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. In order to meet the needs of foreign tourists, in addition to providing legal instruments, there are also English, German and Italian books.
"We need more of these facilities," said Marseille from Rouen, the capital of Upper Normandy. As a new father, he took his baby on vacation to Etta Beach. He watched a Book of poems while the baby was sleeping.
The Beach Library also has a thoughtful arrangement to put away the books you haven't finished that day and let you continue reading the next day before lending them to others.
